TWO goals at the end of each half were enough for Ilkley Town to secure a 2-0 victory at Garstang on Saturday.

A Tom Smith penalty just before the break and a late Kevin Gonzalez strike earned the visitors all three points, while goalkeeper Isaac Khan stopped a penalty of his own to prevent the hosts going 1-0 up inside the opening ten minutes of the contest.

With the September sun beaming down, Zach Clark had the chance to put Garstang ahead, however his effort from the spot was expertly saved by Khan.

Smith thought he’d levelled things up on minute 41 when he tucked the ball away after racing clear, however the referee said otherwise after the linesman had put their flag up.

Only four minutes later Smith would get his goal from the penalty spot, after an Ilkley man had been brought down.

Town’s frontman clinically dispatched the shot into the roof of Garstang’s net.

After the interval, with the hosts pushing for a late equaliser, Gonzalez raced clear to seal a 2-0 victory for the Baht’atters who now sit in 3rd place in the NWCFL table.

Ilkley return to action when they host Daisy Hill on Saturday at 3pm.
