RHYS Morgan has called for more from his Ilkley Rugby Club side as they still look to continue to ‘bed in’ when they return to action this weekend.

The Stacks Field side is sixth in the Regional One North East table on 13 points from their first five games of the new season. This start includes two wins and three defeats, with a narrow 31-29 loss to Scunthorpe in their last match on October 1.

Following a free weekend from action last weekend, mid-table Ilkley return this Saturday for a home league clash with bottom-placed West Bridgford (3pm kick-off). The visitors have lost all five of their matches so far this campaign, but Morgan is taking nothing for granted.

He has given his assessment of Ilkley’s season so far and urged his side to show full concentration in their clash this Saturday.

Morgan said: “It’s good at the moment. We’ve got a really good, strong team.

“We are covered in all departments.

“We probably feel a little bit hard done by in a couple of our games this season.

“We got a bit lucky at Sandal (When Ilkley won 26-22). Sometimes you have to take the rough with the smooth.

“We were unlucky in our last game against Scunthorpe. We probably would have liked to have had one or two more wins under our belts at this stage.

“We are not in a bad place. We would like to have a few more points. We are happy with where we are.

“West Bridgford are struggling a little bit at the moment. We need to really concentrate and pick up points this weekend. But we can’t count our chickens.”

Meanwhile, Morgan says it will take time for Ilkley to hit their strides and has called for more from his side as they now have a cluster of nine league games before the Christmas break.

He added: “We have got a good squad this year. It’s a stronger squad than last year, in terms of quality and size.

“We are struggling a little bit and it takes time for changes to bed in.

“We are still searching for more and I think we have more to offer than we are at the moment.

“If we are picking up a few wins and bonus points while we are still finding our feet and start to produce towards the Christmas period then that would be good.

“We played Scunthorpe and had five of our pack missing, so we can’t be too hard on ourselves. Those boys should be back this weekend.

“We like this league and we want to stay in this league. We want to be competitive in this league.

“We have to make sure that we are not going down. We want to get out of that danger zone. It’s a competitive league.

“We are building up a really good club spirit.”
