SALLY Malir was a double gold medal winner for Ilkley Harriers in the Yorkshire Veterans Cross Country Championships at Nunroyd Park.

She won the L50 category and combined with Jann Smith, Helen Waddington and Nicky Hopwood to win the F45-54 team gold medal.

Jann Smith added to her team gold by taking the silver medal in the L45 category over the 5k course.

Matt Cox, Paul Carman and Nick Pearce ran the 10k event with Pearce winning silver in the M60 age group,

Jack Wood was in good form at the Three Shires Race at Little Langdale in the Lake District. He stormed round the course in 2:03:12 for fourth position.

Steve Turland was 36th in 2:28:06, Richard Joel 92nd in 2:52:41 and Alison Weston 108th in 2:57:42 (2nd V50), Duncan Cooper 138th in 3:12:30, Mary Gibbons 164th in 3:22:37 and Sarah Edwards 181st in 3:31:37.

Kate Archer was meanwhile racing up and down Scafell Pike from Wasdale to come second lady and gain overall 'Queen of the Mountains' for the series of Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scafell Pike. It is a very impressive achievement.

Wood was in action 24 hours later when he sped round the Embsay fell race in 19:26 to gain second place. Iain Gibbons was tenth in 21:48, followed by Martin Archer 13th in 22:18 and Peter Lewis 81st in 31:19. The race was won by Mercia’s Simon Bailey in 18:45.
