BRYDAN Klein must wait until tomorrow to finish off his AEGON Ilkley Trophy quarter-final against Ryan Harrison.

The 26-year-old British wild card was set-all against the unseeded American when their match was halted because of rain.

Klein, who changed allegiance from Australia three years ago – his mother is from Manchester – pinched the first set 6-4 on Centre Court but lost the second 6-3 to the more powerful 24-year-old in the ATP Challenger.

Harrison, who is world ranked 152 compared to Klein's 198, served seven aces in the opening set and only dropped two points in his opening three service games.

However, the American had major problems in the seventh game, double-faulting twice to lose his serve.

Klein, who had saved break points in two of his three initial service games, pounced with his only opportunity but had to save another break point when he was serving for the set.

Things were much more straightforward for Harrison in the second set as he broke in the second game and held that advantage, winning the set as steady drizzle began to fall.

Either Klein or Harrison will meet top seed Jordan Thompson or Frenchman Vincent Millot in the semi-finals, with the Australian having taken the opening set 6-4 on Court No 1 before the rain fell.

The other two quarter-finals – Quentin Halys (France) versus Polish qualifier Michal Przysiezny and second seed Yen-Hsun Lu (Taipei) against Argentinian Renzo Olivo – did not even make it onto court.

The ITF Women's Pro Circuit event, which is running alongside the men, is still at the quarter-final stage, having begun today a round behind the males.

Michelle Larcher de Brito of Portugal is closest to reaching the semi-finals as she is 6-1, 2-0 ahead against tall fifth-seeded Chinese opponent Ying-Ying Duan.

Second seed Eygeniya Rodina (Russia) is 6-0, 2-2 against sixth seed Richel Hoogenkamp (Netherlands), while France's Amandine Hesse leads Mayo Hibe (Japan) 6-1, 0-1.

The remaining quarter-final between Kai-Chen Chang (China) and qualifier Rebecca Sramkova (Slovakia) has yet to get to court.

Rodina, whose second serve looked increasingly vulnerable, put out wild card Samantha Murray – the last remaining British woman – earlier in the day.

World No 120 Rodina triumphed 6-4, 6-3 and Murray's coach David Sammel said: "Samantha is the consummate professional.

"She does everything right and I just hope that the LTA award her a wild card into next week's Wimbledon qualifying because she deserves one."

There is home interest in the men's doubles, however, with wild cards Klein and fellow Briton Lloyd Glasspool having put out fourth seeds Jonathan Marray – the former Wimbledon men's doubles champion from Sheffield – and Canadian partner Adil Shamasdin 5-7, 6-4, 10-8 in the quarter-finals.

Marray and Shamasdin and Klein and Britain's Alex Ward have been awarded wild cards into the men's doubles at Wimbledon the week after next.
