BURLEY House Field Community Orchard – planted in December 2013 – is beginning to bear fruit.
Apples, pears, damsons and plums are all starting to appear. Many of the species originate from Yorkshire or the north of England and have some wonderful names like Dog’s Snout, New Bess Pool and Grandpa Buxton.
Volunteers who planted the trees ranged from six years old upwards, and all are pleased to see the Burley House Field Community Orchard already producing fruit.
A working group meets on the second Sunday of each month from 10am to noon. Check the information boards at either gate for more information about volunteering or what to look for in the field during the coming months.
Parish councillor John Grimshaw, chairman of Burley Parish Council, said: "People within Burley have all pulled together to make Burley House Field a community attraction, and the first fruit from the orchard has enhanced the field and added something special within the village."
