FUNDING provided by Ilkley and District Round Table is helping Ilkley in Bloom to continue to enhance the floral and environmental attractiveness of the town.

As well as providing a splash of colour in the lives of residents and visitors to Ilkley town centre, Ilkley in Bloom also carries out regular litter patrols throughout the year, particularly prior to the judging of the Yorkshire in Bloom event.

The Ilkley in Bloom organisation are also asked to assist other groups, such as the Guides, with their litter picks, and are asked to provide equipment to help with this.

Ilkley in Bloom honorary secretary, Kate Brown, said: “Over the years, our supply of litter pickers has dwindled as volunteers have either kept them to carry out litter picking near their homes, or they have broken.

"We found ourselves with only about ten to hand out and, ideally, we need three times this number.

“On behalf of Ilkley in Bloom, I would like to extend thanks to Ilkley and District Round Table for granting our request for the purchase of the additional litter pickers required. This will allow Ilkley In Bloom to maintain public areas in Ilkley and the surrounding district for many years to come.”

Ilkley in Bloom is a volunteer-led organisation, which is reliant upon charitable contributions and the funding received in lieu of services provided to other organisations, for example by regularly tending the garden at the police station.
