ILKLEY Amateur Operatic Society completes their centenary year with a production of the smash hit musical The Wiz.

Based on the well known story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the show has all the familiar characters you’d expect to see, but heralds a whole new collection of songs, all with a catchy Soul and R and B sound.

Director, Mark Allan, says: “We know that Ilkley audiences of all ages will love this show. It’s bright and colourful, full of catchy songs and high energy dance routines. We have a cast of familiar faces to IAOS audiences and a few new ones, treading the boards for the first time for the Society.

“Every version of this story requires a highly skilled performer to play the lead role of Dorothy,” says Mark. “She’s onstage for nearly all of the show.

"The Society is fortunate to have found their Dorothy in the form of Amy Watt, a multi-talented teenager.

“Her performance of the final song is worth the ticket price itself.

"Amy is ably supported by a super talented bunch of principals and ensemble members, and a group of dancers from Ilkley dance school, Joze School of Dance.

"With a cast of nearly 50 performers, audiences are in for a treat.

“It’s such a great show that I’m singing along in the pit, and I’m sure audiences will be singing along and tapping their toes.”

The show runs at the King's Hall, Ilkley from November 1st to 3rd at 7.15pm and November 4th at 1.30pm and 6.30pm.
