ACTING was in the blood for Wendy Howard, whose father Sydney was a well known star of stage and silver screen.

Wendy was the only child of actor/comedian Sydney Howard and his wife Dora (nee White).

Archivist Carlo Harrison said: "She spent much of her childhood with her White grandparents, aunt Christabel and uncle Donald White, they had a newsagents shop on Ivegate (now Rivoli Pizza). She attended Aireborough Grammar School and became a gym mistress at Dulwich College.When in Yeadon Wendy made appearances in shows at the Temperance Hall which her uncle Donald produced."

Air Raid Precautions(ARP) at Ilkley. Owing to the presence of Zeppelins over Yorkshire, precautionary measures were taken in Ilkley. Special Constables, the Ambulance Corps and the Fire Brigade were in readiness for duty throughout the night. Electric light and gas were practically shut off. A number of unexplained explosions were heard by many residents in Ilkley.
